The UT Health Science Center Briscoe Library (7703 Floyd Curl Drive in San Antonio) will be hosting 2 MLA Webinars in August. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Please RSVP.

  1. Consumers and Evidence-Based Practice: Understanding the Evidence Behind the Headlines
    • Researchers report that older adults who slept more than 8 hours a night were 46% more likely to suffer strokes… What is the evidence? This webinar will take the headlines promoting new research findings and explain the study designs behind them.
    • Presenter Connie Schardt
    • Wednesday, August 12, 1:00 p.m.–2:30 p.m.

  1. Understanding Qualitative Research: Exploring the Motivations of Patients and Clinicians
    • If studies show that having answers to clinical questions changes patient management over 50% of the time, why do residents fail to answer their clinical question? Quantitative research can count the changes in management but qualitative research is needed to explain the problems with changing behavior.  This webinar will be an introduction to Qualitative Research in health care. After the presentation, participants will be able to describe the differences between qualitative and quantitative research, identify terminology and search filters that make it easier to find qualitative research and using a case based example, evaluate the credibility of qualitative research.
    • Presenter Connie Schardt
    • Wednesday, August 26, 1:00 p.m.–2:30 p.m.
